Charlotte spoke spiritedly of how prior to 1970s feminist organizing, women were “at the mercy of men.” She noted that feminism not only allowed women to have control over their bodies but also led to other medical advancements.

Students noted the founding of feminist organizations as an important component of improving the status of women. Smith respondent Bette said, “[T]here are still major women’s organizations that operate because of the feminist movement of the ’60s. In that sense, if it weren’t for that move, we wouldn’t have a lot of those organizations we have now.” UCSB student Ninjabi spoke of organizations:
